Sifiso Mkhabela was born in Mbombela in 1991, Sifiso Mkhabela pursued his passion for sculpture in Pretoria, earning a B-Tech in Fine and Applied Arts before working as a studio assistant for Angus Taylor. Influenced by his father`s work as a boiler maker, Mkhabela developed a deep connection to metal, seeing it as the backbone of daily life. His sculptures merge geometric and organic forms, drawing inspiration from Platonism and abstract mathematical concepts. Beginning with materials like shoe sole rubber and wire, he transforms them into life-sized or larger sculptures, embracing the raw texture of his medium. Through hybrid techniques, he continuously explores new ways to manipulate metal, creating dynamic representations of abstract ideas that bridge personal memory and philosophical inquiry.
