Mashir Kresenshun, a 22-year-old artist, explores self-discovery and identity as a marginalised person of colour through mixed media works combining figurative drawings, paintings, and collaged cardboard elements. His Indian Trade Series interrogates Indian heritage by referencing vintage photography and the spice trade, using colour to represent South Africa?s multicultural landscape. The cardboard elements in his work symbolise the construction and deconstruction of culture within a cosmopolitan society. In his Cardboard Painting Series, abstract compositions take on a ritualistic, trance-like quality, reflecting deeper spiritual and cultural dialogues. While some may view his optimism as youthful naivety, his work reveals a wisdom beyond his years.
