ABOUT THE ARTIST
Awie Visagie was born in 1948 and grew up in Klerksdorp, North West. He started drawing at the age of 5 with a keen interest in steam locomotives.
After he matriculated, he studied graphic design at Pretoria Technikon and this career as a graphic designer kept him busy for many years and only made the occasional painting. Inspired by a friend, Johnny de Beer, founder of art.co.za and his wife, he started painting more seriously again.
Awie Visagie is at present still working as a graphic designer but is rapidly moving into his new career as a full time artist.
In 2006 he took part in the ATKV Elizabeth Eybers Poetry Art Exhibition in Klerksdorp and was awarded 1st price for his historical paintings.
In 2007 he won an award at the Woodlands Boulevard Art Festival also for his historical paintings.
