Justice Mathonsi, born in rural Ribungwani, Limpopo, has rapidly built a strong artistic profile, exhibiting both locally and internationally. After completing high school in 2008, he earned a higher certificate in architecture and draughting before studying visual art and printmaking at Artist Proof Studio, graduating in 2016. His work, inspired by the values instilled by his grandparents and community, pays homage to the elders and children who shaped his life. Using techniques like linocut, etching, charcoal, and painting, Mathonsi captures the essence of his village, expressing gratitude through intricate mark-making and rich colour palettes. His exhibitions span South Africa and Germany, reflecting his deep connection to his roots and growing international recognition.
