Lebohang Motaung`s art celebrates black femininity with pride, using intricate black hair designs to challenge negative stereotypes and champion African beauty. In a city like Johannesburg, where African and western aesthetics often clash, her work subverts the notion that black aesthetics are inferior. Rejecting the idea that weaves and wigs define professionalism, her art amplifies the beauty of natural African hair, urging women to embrace their identity. Through her distinctive use of synthetic hair, she advocates for self-acceptance amidst societal pressures. Originally from Sebokeng, Motaung holds a BTech in Fine Arts from Vaal University of Technology and honed her printmaking skills at Artist Proof Studios.

Her career has flourished through prestigious residencies, including The School of Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and The Project Space in Johannesburg, where she was mentored by the late Benon Lutaaya.
